Picking up three years on from where we left off, Alchemy of Souls season 2 has centered around the powerful monster hunter Jang Uk’s (Lee Jae-wook) unique relationship with Jin Bu-yeon (Ko Yoon-jung), who is revealed to have the soul of Naksu inside of her (although up until episode 8, neither of the main two protagonists knew this).
That, and the lingering threat of Jin Mu (Jo Jae-yoon), who still hasn’t learned his lesson and now wishes to summon another ice stone and claim Jinyowon, also remains front and center. Of course, there’s plenty more going on around Daeho – Seo Yul (Hwang Min-hyun) almost died but ended up having the blood parasite safely removed from him, So-i passed away trying to save him, the Crown Prince has realigned with the Gwanju, Maidservant Kim is to marry Park Jin, and Dang-gu made up with Cho-yeon — ensuring season two has been action-packed.
Nevertheless, it has split audience opinion. Some have been invested in how things are wrapping up, intrigued by the numerous changes to proceedings and excited to see how Jang Uk finds out Naksu is still alive, in addition to how Jin Mu and co. get their comeuppance. Others, however, have been disconnected, feeling like the show’s vibe has changed in a way that no longer appeals to them.
Whichever side of the fence you sit on though, it’s undeniable Alchemy of Souls season 2 has been buzzworthy. It has spent the last two weeks inside of Netflix’s global top ten (as has season 1, in fairness), climbing as high as 5th place, with a particularly impressive 15,060,000 hours viewed between December 19 – 25.

Will there be Season 3 of Alchemy of Souls – renewed or canceled status
There has been no confirmation from Netflix yet as to whether there will be a Season 3 of Alchemy of Souls.
Although nothing has been completely confirmed, Alchemy of Souls season 2 looks like it will be the end of the show’s run. This isn’t exactly a huge surprise, given that there will have been a total of 30 episodes, and the Hong sisters have told the story in such a way that it almost has to end once Jin Mu’s threat has been quelled and Naksu’s fate has been conclusively dealt with. Plus, a second season is already a rarity in K-Dramas, so it’s likely the chance was taken to wrap things up here without the need for further renewals.
Nevertheless, you can truly never rule something out until it’s official. However, with Alchemy of Souls season 2 garnering a more mixed reception than in season 1, slightly worse television ratings, and telling a story that seems tailor-made for an exciting, decisive ending to come in the upcoming finale, it’d be wise to bet this is the last time we’ll visit Daeho.

You’d think Alchemy of Soul Season 2 wouldn’t top what its predecessor did in ratings. However, Season 2 ended with a rating of 9.651%, placing it as the 41st-highest cable drama of all time and just ahead of Season 1, which garnered a rating of 9.295% and 44th place.
If anything, Alchemy of Souls is more popular now.

I truly think Alchemy of Souls could have stayed at number 1 and should have been written as a longterm series. I know I’m not the only one so invested as the plots characters acting & action have made Alchemy of souls a riveting watch but, after the mess of an ending on part 1, and rushing a sub part plot in season 2 and switching out female leads it begs to wonder where else it could go? I think the Hong sister’s should seriously consider saving this show and write a season 3, 4 even!! This is a cast story and action that could work longer term!
The whole reason I watch K-drama is because U.S.A. television keeps dragging stories on and on without any closure. A great story has a beginning, a middle and an end. Until now, I could count on K-drama to honor the artisitic integrity of a drama series as a storytelling vehicle. Based on how they left the story at the end of Part 1, I would say that the K-drama institution is being infected by the U.S. money-crazed production culture. Please! Resist this! Tell your story and bring it to an end.

I am on the fence. I just started season 2 . Jang UK is so cold depressed tormented…and angry. He went from playful and sweet to this. Hes scarier than the bad guys. But i am starting another episode because of a small glimmer of his true self is still there…
I think part of the confusion is that this is not season one and season 2 – but this is part 1 and part 2… it was not renewed until a new season but was always planned to be released in 2 parts. (Like act 1 and act 2 in a play).
I’m really invested… though the switch of actresses is jarring, it goes hand in hand with the core plot – soul shifting – one person’s soul in another person’s body, and who really are we dealing with – the soul or the body. this could not have been well addressed by keeping the same actress in the lead. And not for nothing, this is not the only character that had this going on, though it’s slightly the opposite – the character of the queen is now played by a different actress, though that change was explained in the first part and this character is aware and miserable in the body she is in.
I see this all as season 1 and I don’t need a season 2 though I’ll miss the characters dearly.
I feel disconnected with the 2nd season even though I still enjoyed it but I prefer the 1st season much more. The 2nd leading lady should have made her acting in tune with 1st leading lady instead of acting like another persona. Although she should be the original Naksu in the story, the Naksu personality that the people learned to love was Jung Somin’s version. Even if there’s an amnesia plot, the writers should have retained some of the personality of the 1st season’s Naksu because technically it should have been ingrained in her soul even if she can’t recall who she is. The feistiness of her character is gone and just became a regular cutesy lovestruck heroine. It feels like she is Buyeon with Naksu’s memories instead of Naksu herself which is quite unfortunate. It would be more interesting if Jang uk get’s confused because Buyeon acts very similar to Mudeok instead of being confused just because of the memories she sees and the similar words she and Mudeok says.
Can’t wait for a season 3,4….

Please no more seasons. One of the reaosns why I think ledesma is so good is because the stories are only 16 episodes long. There is no need to make it longer just to make more money. The whole point of kdrama is to give us a good story.
I understand needing to close out the story, but in that same thought, I would love to see this played out one more season, or perhaps a new drama starring our dear heros , telling tales of what they do where they go? Etc.

The story ended in season one and the new lead female is just copying everything done by the season one lead girl. I see no reason continuing it. It’s so boring and if I wanted a kissing and love series then I will watch Thai gay series. Alchemy of souls has lost its touch. If Season 2 ends smoothly as expected, then Season 3 may be started like a new beginning. This is such a beautiful and so inspiring show that you end up watching over and over again. Love it!

I enjoy watching this series both seasons 1 and 2 are well-made. The producer is doing a wonderful job. I cannot get enough of this series I look forward to watching it on Saturday and Sunday. I do hope for Season 3 a little more romance would be nice.

Thought, I am hoping for Season 3 but the truth is that this movie should just end in season 2 cos there is no need to be prolonging it’s either sad or happy ending. About its cast change, a movie should be appreciated for it story line not by its actor or actress. Since season 1, Nak-su ( Go Yoon-jung), I believe is the female lead whose soul is just trap in Mu Deok ( Jung So Min ) body for the main time. Before,it was clear that one day Nak-su will return to her body one day taking back her position one day and that is now . I am not her number one fan supporting her but the true fact should be know and people should adapt to the truth and enjoy their season 2 in peace

I love kdramas and stopped watching American tv solely for the fact that there is always an ending. Do not make a season 3. Anything more will just be drawn out at the expense of quality. I love this show. I have anxiety every time I watch because it’s so good! As for the actress switch. I loved the first one and am warming up to this one. This is good story telling people when the reason for the switched ML is so powerful. If Naksu showed up in the other body she would’ve been hunted and that’s all season 2 would’ve focused on instead of a beautiful love story proving that they are soulmates even when they can’t recognize each other at first. I’m on episode 9 and it’s everything I’ve hoped for. They are wrapping up the hanging story lines and I can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode 10. I only pray they can be together. I have many thoughts on how that will be possible. Remember. The ML’s body is a toss up. The baby was dead just like the other soul shifter guy who saved Naksu/Beyuneol. He’s been able to exist no problems in the man’s dead body when he shifted. The soul of the original priestess chose to return in the dead baby’s body. So I think since she orchestrated this whole thing, she will choose to leave the body to Naksu. When that happens the body will return to looking like Mudeok. That actress has a cameo in season 2 and she has yet to appear in any episode yet. Food for thought. This will stay my number one rewatch for a long time to come! Brilliant show and actors! Thank you for a show I can’t wait to watch. I’ve been discouraged from American shows and currently have only 3 I watch anymore.

I would love for it to go on forever really, I love the actors chemistry, Especially love Jong Uk the character and the actor. I love his intensity in the second season. Was disappointed in the switch for female lead, she was bad ass as Naksu but she is growing on me as Mu-dok.
Season 2 is very slow pace, coukdve ended with an short 6 episode series. Now jin mu scheme is jjsy recyled, everone have desires and old powerfull people wants to retain youth and power for ever .
It was such a shame a classic fight scene was cut dowm to a slash and kill. Like ur telling me u have gather the most powerfull people for decades and none can hold a candle to jung uk, even for entertainment sake?

Honestly, 2nd Season is kinda dis-appointment. First, the switching of Main Naksu. In my opinion, the switching is acceptable at the beginning but they should return the original Naksu to make it more intriguing and admirable to us, audience. 2nd, the acting of the replaced Leading lady (Naksu) made the story like a high school kind of teen story, it is very poor. So, I don’t think Season 3 will be good unless they return the real Mudeuk character. She is more comparable to the 2nd one, way-way too good in portraying her character. She is indeed suit to be whether Naksu, Mudeok or Bu-yoen

I love alchemy of the souls even if my mom and dad doesn’t like me watching them it has brought me to a happy place and I want a season 3 cause I want to see naksu getting her powers back and her sword and UK getting his father’s sword so the powerful couple can fight soul sifters together.
This series has blown me away! Season 1 introduced us to the exciting world of magic from a perspective I’ve never seen before! The storytelling is beautiful and the visuals are the cherry on top! This series, like Outlander, has the ability to tell MANY more stories. Unlike most modern-day series, it’s not just the storytelling, actors, action or visuals. The sisters have created a masterpiece where they all shine and support one another. While Korean series are surely but 16 episodes, the sisters exquisite abilities can carry this much further. In my opinion, this is a classic!
YES to seasons 3, 4, 5. and etc. The actors are great and that Is what makes the show so popular. Even though the drama/threat behind Jin Mu is done with his death. The show has lots to offer to extend the thriller through dangerous relics, new pupil mages’ threats, shaman’s craziness, travel in time, etc… I can watch the show over and over and find different perspectives each time. This is my favorite show of all time! Besides the thrill, there is wisdom in it. In one of the episodes they say something: “The person with inner light who protects the person in the shadow will never be lost in darkness” To me, this means when we genuinely have compassion, and empathy toward others and help them, we are actually clearing our own life darkness. The show is about using inner power for goodness, it brought so much practical life philosophy that I was in awe while watching it. I don’t have words to express how much I liked this show, but thank you so so much to the Hong sisters, their creativity is unparalleled.

Just finished part 2, it was really interesting and for the fact that both UK and Boeyoun married that settled it for me. I equally enjoyed the fact that it was simple and ended instead add up stories and getting confused all in the name of making part3.

It’s truly a great love story as well as the good verses evil aspect of the human experience! Looking forward to the coming episodes!

I want to see them fighting th relics. And find out if the jin rah gave bu yeons body to naksu. So much is left unanswered. The coronation of the crown Prince. Will he thrive? Or will he be hostility taken over and jang uk become the king? Please please we need to know! Season 2 with 10 episodes was just not enough! You need to keep this going!

Great show. The best part was the despicable Jin Mu. In my opinion, one of the top villains of all times (and all countries). My hat is off to the actor who played Jin Mu. What an amazingly wicked half smile/half sneer!! I literally shivered when he spoke!! Please bring back the show for season 3 and include a resurrected Jin Mu!!
I was completely captivated with the first season. It had the right combination of male and female leads. It kept you hanging each week with anticipation for the next episode. The second season was too off. It had a new female lead that not only didn’t connect with half the shows fans but in my opinion never connected with the other characters of the show and actually took away from the entire cast especially in the last few episodes of the last season when Naksu character was supposed to be 3 different women! I feel like the show internally committed suicide. It’s really a shame for a show to end like this one when it had such an amazing start. If there by luck happens to be a third season which I don’t think there will be but if , then breath life back into it by bringing Mudoek back.

I don’t think Alchemy of soul will end in season two . Because when Jin Mu finally wants to wake the fire bird we had like 7 of the mages of unanimous assembly present there. Then Jin Mu killed one. Remember, that after Jang UK burnt all of them it was only like 4 burnt corpses we could see at the scene. And even the ending its not convincing enough to be the end. So therefore , am seriously and patiently waiting for the season 3. Hopefully,this year ?

The story of season 2 is kind of not connected much better the writer connect the story on season 1…people are excited about what happen to the first lady Mu deok -i..this is much better if season 3 is coming…

I can handle storyline but when watching a series, I want to be convinced and I wasn’t. Naksu’s personality was not the same in Season 2, felt more like the leading lady had face of Naksu, body of Buyeon and personality of Buyeon. Where was the Naksu who was gutsy, clever, mischievous, a bit more reserved about her love for main lead? Naksu in season 2 was just sad, foolish, cared only for her looks, too emotional and open about her love – even if was she Buyeon at first, when Naksu remembered everything, shouldn’t she be more like Naksu in season 1? Felt like she wasn’t Naksu. Naksu would never cry or run away. She got hit in the head once and laughed whilst bleeding! Where did that Naksu go?
