We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Divorce Attorney Shin Season 1 Episode 9, which contains spoilers.
With plenty of focus on the entire ensemble, episode nine of Divorce Attorney Shin was highly entertaining. It’s clear things are making way for Geum-hui’s divorce case to take center stage, but the moments highlighting Seo-jin’s (Han Hye-jin) growth are real standout moments too. Hopefully, it’ll be a case of more of the same as we head into the final three episodes.

Wrapping up Chun-seok’s case
With Sung-han helping to prove Chun-seok isn’t the father of Dinh Thi Hoa’s child by using blood type results, meaning the Vietnamese mother can no longer request a divorce, attention turns to whether she was actually assaulted by her husband.
Unsurprisingly, the defendant is found innocent once more here, given there was no conceivable way he could’ve beat his wife using his right arm due to having a “frozen shoulder.”
As an emotional Dinh Thi Hoa silently reconciles with Chun-seok, Yu-seok bites back at Yeong-ju, warning her to stop “crossing the line” by toying with Sung-han without his consultancy. In response, the “incompetent” Attorney Park has his job position threatened.
Hyeon-tae agrees to divorce
The next day, it’s Choi Jun’s turn to head to court, where he alleges Hyeon-tae had to put up with his sibling’s “unreasonable demands” because they helped him hide his child from the vulnerable Min-jeong.
That, and it’s proven the defendant had actually signed up for the schizophrenic support group Heart Waves before joining his wife’s church, cynically using a fake sister as his reasoning in a morbid attempt to “prove” himself to his future in-laws.
Finally, Hyeon-tae’s caring façade is completely exposed, and his inferiority complex rooted in a lower-class background manifests in him getting violent with Choi Jun. Fortunately, though, divorce is still agreed to, ensuring that Min-jeong doesn’t have to pay alimony.
Later, Sung-han opts against scolding his junior for the reckless behavior he displayed during the mediation session and instead gives a bit of comedic advice about mindfulness.
Hyeong-geun is romantically unaware, Yeong-ju is asked to leave Keumhwa, and Jeong-sik is “too forward”
Following a nervous question on whether she should open a macaron shop that night, So-yeon asks Hyeong-geun if Ji-eun will be his “last love.” But the paralegal seems oblivious to this subtle confession of romantic feelings, and his answer of his ex-wife being his “first love” draws the ire of his friends. Meanwhile, a drunken Choi Jun falls asleep on a live stream, but Ho-yeong comes to his aid.
Next, Yeong-ju hears from her father-in-law that she could be the “rotten apple that spoils the barrel” and is asked to leave Keumhwa. Additionally, the increasingly bitter PR advisor is told by Chang-jin that she first struck him as shameless.
As Geum-hui requests Sung-han’s help with her upcoming divorce, Ho-yeong talks with Jeong-sik. Initially, it’s regarding the former’s want of a house. Yet, it soon devolves into the realtor seeking answers on why the person he’s interested in from his single’s group has “disappeared without a trace.”
Bluntly, Ho-yeong tells Jeong-sik he was “too forward” and suggests he joins a poetry club to find people instead.

After a successful team dinner, where Seo-jin is encouraged to try streaming, the flustered former radio presenter finds herself taken aback by a “fan,” who discusses how “sexy” she looks in person.
Fortunately, Sung-han defends his colleague before encouraging her to “stay strong” amongst the pain, issuing a reminder that she managed to attain custody of Hyeon-u, seemingly pointing out the youngster is worth fighting for.
Heeding Sung-han’s advice, Seo-jin takes her son shopping for clothes and shoes (instead of ordering them online) and hears through Hyeon-u’s tears how happy he is to be out with his mother. “To be honest, I’m still not ok,” the former radio presenter says, before accepting she’ll still try to be and letting her child know she is “sorry every day.”
Then, with the punctuation mark of an emotional embrace between the two, the episode ends.
