Summary

A fun installment kickstarts Jeong-suk’s new life.

We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Doctor Cha season 1 Episode 2, which does not contains spoilers.

It’s easy to root for Jeong-suk (Uhm Jung-hwa). The first two episodes of Doctor Cha have done a really strong job of establishing her as a mistreated but tremendously talented woman who is now ready to live life for herself.

With the added wrinkle of Jeong-suk becoming a resident at In-ho’s hospital, things look like they’re about to get exciting.

Doctor Cha Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Picking up where we left off, a recovered Jeong-suk is able to return home thanks to a liver donation from a brain-dead patient. But it’s already evident things aren’t the same, with the homemaker struggling to hide her deflation amidst faux celebration from In-ho and Ae-sim.

What makes Jeong-suk live for herself?

The next day, it’s back to business as usual for Jeong-suk, who starts to wonder what she means to her family. It’s a point cemented by the fact her husband wishes for her to apply for a disability rating purely to help out with his parking, in addition to all the other casual mistreatment over things like coffee beans or breakfast choices.

So, Jeong-suk takes a stand. During her trip to pick up a bag for Ae-sim, the homemaker goes on a deserved shopping spree, completely disregarding her husband’s ire. “I want to live a little shamelessly doing the things I want,” Jeong-suk articulately explains to In-ho, ready to explore the world her way now she’s seen his true colors and escaped death from her liver failure.

After a night of prickliness towards her husband, Jeong-suk takes his permission for her to get lax with chores literally, meaning everyone is left to their own devices. That, and the homemaker heeds the advice of her own mother by choosing to find happiness through studying again.

What is Jeong-suk and In-ho’s backstory?

When drinking with Mi-hee, Jeong-suk hears of Seung-hi and In-ho’s close-knit history (coincidentally, the two lovers are out eating at the same time) and spills the story of Jung-min’s conception.

This pregnancy, it’s revealed, occurred on a school camping trip when the two students ended up stuck in a sweaty room together. And following that, In-ho and Jeong-suk became married, all because of Jung-min.

While In-ho admits he views the rekindling of his relationship with Seung-hi as “fate,” Jeong-suk decides she wants her name added to the house deed. Yet her husband objects, in part due to Ae-sim’s insistence that the family manager cannot touch the patriarch’s assets.

How does Jeong-suk plan a return to the medical field?

Despite wanting to visit Jung-min, who is struggling with the demands of his internship, Jeong-suk comes across Roy Kim instead. Here, the two exchange photos of their time observing a surgery together, and seeds are planted for the homemaker’s potential return to the medical profession.

With the encouragement of Roy Kim, and in spite of her husband’s sarcastic putdowns, Jeong-suk ultimately opts to study for the residency exam. She’s successful, too, outscoring Jung-min and showing she is ready to reignite her career.

However, when applying for a residency, Jeong-suk does struggle to settle on what department she should choose to specialize in.

Doctor Cha Season 1 Episode 2 Ending Explained

Sadly, because of fears about her age and health, a deflated Jeong-suk fails to land a residency at her husband’s hospital. To make matters worse, In-ho is in a celebratory mood over this, to the point he even suggests his wife goes on holiday.

Surprisingly, though, the episode ends with Seung-hi discussing hospital procedures with none other than Jeong-suk, seemingly showing the homemaker somehow did end up on the residency she applied for.

With this in mind, the episode ends with In-ho dramatically calming himself down.
