Summary
“Into the Deep Woods” is a real downgrade from the season’s opener. The dialogue is surprisingly cliched, as are the action sequences. Gus and the hybrid children are still just as charming as ever, yet the many other subplots on display lack any substance.
We recap the Netflix series Sweet Tooth Season 2 Episode 2, “Into the Deep Woods,” which contains spoilers.
Season two of Sweet Tooth finds our intrepid heroes taking on the Last Men army at their newly acquired zoo headquarters.
Episode two, “Into the Deep Woods,” focuses on Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Aimee’s (Dania Ramirez) attempts to free Gus (Christian Convery) and his hybrid friends, who are all kept prisoners in this complex. While Doctor Singh (Adeel Akhtar) uses hypnosis to coerce Gus into remembering important facts about his origins.
Sweet Tooth Season 2 Episode 2 Recap
We open with a flashback sequence as Tommy ‘Big Man’ Jepperd hopelessly searches for his family during the Great Crumble. Desperate for answers, he joins the Last Men, who promise to help him find his missing family. Jepperd wakes from this dream with Aimee by his side.
What is Aimee’s rescue plan?
Aimee explains how she found him and saved him from the Last Men army. She then describes her plans for rescuing the hybrid children. Jepperd thinks it’s a foolish plan, but the duo infiltrates the zoo regardless.
They wear disguises and enter the zoo but are quickly caught and attacked. Jepperd and Aimee are forced to leave before they’ve even made contact with the kids.
Jepperd places Gus’ stuffed animal Dog in a bag of food, hoping this will work as a message of sorts.
This brings us back to the present. Gus finds the toy and joins the dots together. The kids are excited to be rescued, and Wendy makes preparations for leaving. However, they need to get rid of Bobby’s tracking collar first.
Desperate to find a cure, Aditya takes drastic measures and tries hypnosis with Gus. He places the deer boy in a room filled with purple flowers, which apparently produce hallucinogenic qualities in hybrids.
Gus starts hallucinating, hearing Pubba’s voice and visualizing their cabin in Yellowstone.
Gus remembers the specifics of the cabin but nothing else. Aditya urges him to go further back in time to when he was a baby. Gus can’t remember being a baby, although Aditya reassures him that the hallucination will uncover deep, forgotten memories.
What does Gus see in his visions?
Aditya acts rather aggressively toward Gus and pressures him into unlocking these hidden memories. Gus sees the laboratories where he was made and signs that say Project Midnight Sun and Fort Smith. Aditya believes Fort Smith created the virus and Gus.
After fleeing the zoo, Jepperd and Aimee head back to their getaway car, but it won’t start. They are then spotted by a drone operated by the Last Men. Aimee manages to fix the truck, and they escape, but the drone pursues them through dystopian city streets. Jepperd destroys the drone, but they are then chased by the Last Men in vehicles.
Aimee and Jepperd escape the city in one piece. Those chasing report back to base, which in turn informs the hybrid kids that their saviors have left the city. Wendy and the other children are upset by this unfortunate development.
What is Jepperd’s rescue plan?
Aimee blames herself for their failed first attempt. Jepperd suggests that they find some muscle and return with more firepower. He knows some former Last Men who could help free the children.
Gus returns from his hypnosis session to find his friends all looking dejected. He lifts their spirits by talking about their own escape plan. They ask where they will go afterward, and Gus describes his cabin in Yellowstone. He then starts to draw the place using stolen chalk.
