Summary
Watching Senku and his friends close up one chapter to start another is an emotional yet equally satisfying way to start the next major arc.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 5, “Science Vessel Perseus,” which contains spoilers.
With each week, Senku (Yusuke Kobayashi) and his friends acquire more and more technology, recreating the world they once knew on a smaller scale. Although impressive, with rapid growth comes the need for even more resources and development.
It also leaves even more room for error, and now they may have to downsize their ship due to structural issues.
Still, while Senku seems confident that everything will turn out fine in the end, viewers know nothing in this universe ever goes smoothly.
Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 5 Recap
The episode opens with Chrome commenting on how their ship is almost finished, but Kaseki corrects him, saying he’s actually having complications keeping the hull aligned.
While Senku says it is fine at first, he soon realizes they’re running on limited time since the Why-Man appeared and decided to scrap the idea of a ship in favor of something else.
What does Senku suggest they abandon the ship for instead?
Instead of trying to build a giant ship, Senku wants to abandon the idea in favor of building a miniature yacht that will need a much smaller crew. However, Ryuusui suggests building a smaller model ship for Kaseki to base the actual ship’s design on instead.
Since they cannot work during the winter, Senku and his friends create snowboards to have fun and make money. Senku also takes this time to create a chocolate substitute.
After a year of working, Senku and his friend finally complete their ship on September 10th, 5741 AD, and name it Science Vessel Perseus.
Since not everyone can go, or even wants to go, on the ship, Senku and Ryuusui divide the group into two teams: a world exploration team and a humanity development team that will stay behind.
Who ends up on the world exploration team?
On the world exploration team are Ryuusui, Senku, Chrome, Kaseki, Yuzuriha, Ukyo, Francois, Kohaku, Nikki, Taiju, Yo, Magma, Kinro, Gen, and a few others. The group also decides to bring along Hyoga and Homura, who remain prisoners on the ship.
Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 5 Ending Explained
Once everyone is aboard the ship, Ryuusui begins to set sail. Although he declines out of fear initially, Ginro changes his mind at the last second, diving in and chasing after the ship to board it.
As they finally begin their journey, Senku informs the group that their first destination will not be the other side of the world, but instead, a place he calls Treasure Island, where his father and other astronaut survivors first landed.

It can be hard to get a sense of time in this series since it often skips months at a time. I was happy to see that the building of the ship wasn’t dragged out for half a season, as it easily could’ve been.
With that said, the new arc seems promising, if not dangerous. The idea of pairing the cast down a bit instead of taking the entire village on the ship was a smart choice, but I hope we’ll still get glimpses of the villagers and the progress they make along the way.
