Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a six-episode prequel set in the same universe as Bridgerton. The series follows the titular Queen at the start of her marriage with King George, and we get to see her role in creating the ton we’ve all come to know and love from the main series.
Since its late 2020 Netflix premiere, Shonda Rhimes’s Bridgerton series has gathered quite a fan base. Based on a namesakes series of romance novels by Julia Quinn, the show follows Regency-era aristocrats as they fall in love and play the courting game during London’s social season.
There are romance, passion, stunning costumes, and, of course, grand balls complete with classical renditions of contemporary music.
While each season of the main Bridgerton series centers on one of the namesake siblings’ story (season one saw Daphne Bridgerton falling in love with the Duke of Hastings, while in season two, her brother Anthony fell for the headstrong Kate Sharma), Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel) has always been a staple of the series.
Her character takes a keen interest in the ton’s social season, especially in potential matches that may come out of the endless parade of balls. So a prequel devoted to the beloved Queen is most welcome. But the question begs, will we get further spin-offs set in the Georgian era?
Will there be a season 2 Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story – renewed or canceled status
The six-episode miniseries was advertised as a stand-alone prequel to the main Bridgerton show, so a second season is highly unlikely. This doesn’t exclude the possibility of Netflix greenlighting the adaptation of some of the other spin-off novels in the Bridgerverse, such as the Rokesby series.
As for Bridgerton itself, the third season of the series is currently in production. Season three will shine a light on Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) quest to marry the man she’s been crushing on since season one, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
