Ex-Home and Away heartthrob and forgotten member of Guardians of the Galaxy Chris Hemsworth is back in the 2023 Netflix thriller Extraction 2.
The first outing for, unfortunately, named Tyler Rake, was so successful that a sequel was commissioned, giving Hemsworth a role outside the MCU and away from super-heroics.
Hemsworth would slot into the role, embracing the more violent and gritty scenarios as a professional mercenary specializing in getting people out of places they shouldn’t be.
Some stunning set pieces and one-take action sequences proved Hemsworth was a worthy lead in this kind of movie. They were echoing classic action movies of the eighties and nineties, like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and First Blood.
This time around, Tyler has been missing and presumed dead after the events of the first movie and is brought into action again, but the stakes are higher this time around, and we get some more insight into the character and his motivations.
It’s safe to say that this second outing surpasses the first one, and it does look like the team behind Extraction is trying hard to build a franchise.

Prague, Czech Republic
A great deal of the location shooting would be done in the beautiful Eastern European city of Prague. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and has become a trendy destination for film crews and visitors.
Warm summers and chilly winters mean you know exactly what you will get, making it ideal for vacations and filming. Some of the architecture and rising spires give the city the look and feel of a fairy tale, and the city is filled with historical landmarks and places that must be visited.

Vienna, Austria
After the first movie’s events, Tyler is not in great shape, so to help his recovery, Nik sets him up in an isolated cabin. Vienna was the location for these scenes and the setting for a stunning action sequence filmed around the DC Towers.
All those chilly snow-laden scenes were that cold filmed in Austria in February.
Towards the end of the movie, Tyler and Nik are held in the Schwarzau Prison, and this section was also filmed in Austria.
Australia
Actually, the production was meant to film in Australia, but the Covid restrictions would make it too difficult to film there, so at the last moment, the locations all had to be changed, leading to a European shoot instead.
