Will there be a Sintonia Season 5 on Netflix?

This article discusses the possibility of Sintonia Season 5 and the renewed or canceled status of the Brazilian Netflix series. It contains some spoilers for prior seasons.

Sintonia is a successful Brazilian Netflix crime drama from Guilherme QuintellaKondZilla, and Felipe Braga, which enjoyed its fourth season on July 25, 2023.

From our review of the eight-episode season:

The longer runtime does give way to a relatively saggy middle stretch, but it also affords the space for a more thorough unpacking of the characters’ headspaces and the context in which their decisions are being made. As with previous seasons, the three leads navigate distinct cultural strands – politics, religion, entertainment, the underworld – that inevitably intersect with often emotionally heavy results.

Since the show has a fairly active and vocal fanbase, questions are rightly being asked of the show’s potential future. So, here’s everything we know.

Renewed or canceled status: TBC

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Sintonia for a fifth season.

While the show has been successful enough to warrant four whole seasons, we think it’s probably quite unlikely that the show continues beyond this point.

As ever, Netflix will keep an eye on the obvious metrics. Based on previous seasons it’s easy to imagine Sintonia will be a success, but also that it is unlikely to set the streaming world alight. There’s a low probability of the latest season performing so astronomically well as to change the streamer’s mind regarding a renewal if one wasn’t originally planned.

The ending of Sintonia Season 4 is fairly conclusive and works as a logical end point for the three main characters, with a couple of the narrative strands ending on an uncharacteristically hopeful note with a little playful ambiguity for audiences to imagine a potential future for their favorites.

Previous seasons have opted for cliffhangers to whet audience appetites for the next outing. That the fourth season doesn’t do that suggests that the story has reached a logical endpoint.

Likewise, while the additional two episodes of the season — up from the six of the first three outings — could be interpreted as the show finding more favor with a confident streaming platform, it’s likelier that the show was given a little more room to wrap things up properly. The expanded season order likely means there won’t be a fifth season, not the opposite.

Our official prediction is that there will not be a Sintonia Season 5, though as ever we’ll keep this article updated with new information when we get it.
