Do you remember choosing your own pathbooks? They usually consisted of a fantasy scenario, and at the foot of the page, you were faced with various choices.
When you make a decision, it tells you what page to turn to to continue your narrative.
If you are of a certain age, you will be familiar with the idea, and this latest rom-com from Netflix is similar if you squint and look sideways.
Choose Love follows Cami’s story. She is a music producer and finds herself with three possible pathways for her life to take. One is to be with her consistent boyfriend, another is to be with an exciting rock star, and her third choice involves the cliched one that got away.

You get to play the game with Cami, with on-screen prompts allowing you to see where each road leads, so that’s fun. The choices vary in degrees, everything from going to lunch and picking spooky tarot cards, and if you can’t make the decision, it will eventually just do it for you anyway.
You might remember Black Mirror doing a similar thing with the divisive Bandersnatch, and although I feel this approach is more suited to sci-fi and fantasy, it does seem gimmicky, and when your film hinges on a gimmick, it might not have any longevity as a piece of work.
On top of that, a closer look reveals that there are some decisions that you make that really don’t have much bearing on the film’s outcome anyway, leading you to wonder, why bother?

New Zealand
It seems that filming in 2022 took place in and around New Zealand.
I imagine that many of you will already have fond memories of New Zealand as a location, as the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as The Hobbit trilogy, were also filmed there.
Those films were so popular that it actually increased the tourist industry of the area, with many people looking into seeing the locations used for those iconic film franchises.

It has to be said that some of the most visually stunning locations ever can be found here, so you can’t blame production teams for filming there.
Auckland, New Zealand
Auckland, not Orcland, is a large city that can be found in New Zealand’s North Island.
Reports seem to indicate that most of the filming was done on location here, but there is also a chance that some of the interior scenes may have utilized one of the studios available in the area.

There are a number of great studios used for filming in Auckland, and we could not pinpoint where filming for this project took place, but to be fair, it does look like a lot of the film was filmed in real locations in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, Auckland.
