Summary
An especially intense episode that doesn’t let up from start to finish and illustrates just how formidable the Agency’s enemies genuinely are.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 9, “Land of Inhuman Demons (Part 2),” which contains spoilers.
Just when it feels like the Armed Detective Agency may stand a chance, a dozen other things go south and send them back to square one.
With Atsushi (voiced by Y?to Uemura) de-aged, and even Aya (voiced by Minako Kotobuki), this season’s Trump card, captured, the team is down two members they can’t afford to lose.
The only person whose luck seems to be getting better at the moment is Dazai (voiced by Mamoru Miyano), but there’s only so much he can do from prison. At this rate, it feels as though the Armed Detective Agency may never prevail against Fukuchi (voiced by Akio Otsuka), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still time to turn things around.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 9 Ending Explained
Dazai and Sigma attempt to take the elevator to escape, but even after checking it for traps, Dazai fears the ride is taking too long. The elevator suddenly stops, and over the speakers, they hear Fyodor shoot the prisoner who had the ability to stop time.
Fyodor reveals they escaped because Chuya used his gravity manipulation abilities to damage the walls and doors of the room that flooded, leaving space for the water to leak out. Fyodor then floods the elevator.
There were so many interesting or revealing moments in this episode that it was almost hard to choose what to focus on. Given how close the series is to the end of the season, that isn’t surprising, as Bungo Stray Dogs always seems to get especially intense in its final few showings.
The intertwining of the airport story with Dazai’s escape has been especially interesting to watch, and it’s nice that they both seem to have the same level of passion so that neither feels boring or out of place. I’m curious to see just how they come together in the end.
While the pacing and storytelling have been great so far, really taking advantage of the momentum while keeping viewers in suspense, it’s becoming clear once again that this season will likely not finish out this arc. There is no way Fukuchi’s entire plan can be stopped in the next two episodes.
