Summary
An action-packed introduction to the incident arc that fans of fight sequences will enjoy.
This episode marks the beginning of what fans have been waiting for all season: The Shibuya Incident Arc. Although Muta never got the chance to relay the real plan to everyone, the Jujutsu sorcerers seem more than content just to let Gojo handle everything.
While with most incidents, that would probably be an acceptable plan, there’s clearly something different about this one, especially if Geto’s mere presence is anything to go by. It will be interesting to see just how things play out in this episode when it feels like the sorcerers are far more unprepared than they realize.
The episode opens with Gojo entering the barrier alone. Once inside, he notes that there is another veil that is meant to keep non-sorcerers trapped within.
Ui Ui
Ui Ui is the younger brother of grade-1 sorcerer Mei Mei. Although too young to be a professional, Mei Mei brings him along as he is also a gifted sorcerer.
According to Geto, Gojo fights best when he is alone. To trip him up during his fight in the Shibuya tunnels, they allow civilians to fall onto the tracks around him, getting in the way.
Domain amplification
Domain amplification is a technique that envelops the user with the domain, neutralizing any technique used. However, it also reduces its guaranteed hit effect. According to Gojo, it is similar to a simple domain.
Jogo, Hanami, and Choso begin running through the crowd, killing civilians. Hanami and Jogo attempt to punch Gojo but find they cannot come close to touching him even when using their domain amplification.
As Jogo kills another civilian while taunting him, Gojo removes his blindfold and prepares for a fight.
This episode definitely brought the action. While it felt like at least half of it centered around Yuji vs. the grasshopper curse, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. It served as a great way to show off MAPPA’s animation skills while also bringing Yuji back into the forefront as the main character.
I definitely have a few questions about what is going on, especially with Geto’s reappearance, but I’m getting enough hints and information each episode to keep me satisfied as I wait for things to play out.
Although a little slower than the Gojo’s past arc, the Shibuya Incident Arc is definitely off to a good start. It’s clear that this is going to be a much more layered story arc with more twists, so I’m curious to see where it goes.
