Summary
“Happily Ever After” is single-handedly one of the best pilots of a thriller I’ve seen in years. It sets up all the stakes with the characters adding levels of intrigue at every turn.
In episode 1 of Wilderness, we get a glimpse of Liv and Will’s relationship. The happy couple is in the honeymoon stage until Liv finds something in Will’s phone that causes turmoil in the relationship. As Will’s infidelity continues, Liv decides to take matters into her own hands.
We meet our love birds, Liv and Will, cruising down the road with a beautiful mountain backdrop. In the background, we hear Liv narrating a montage of her life leading up to meeting Will and how she can finally be herself. However, she states, like the women before her told her, “It’s never safe.” Insert opening credits with Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.
The couple is moving into their new place followed by Will and Liv heading to a party where he is mixing and mingling with his new co-workers. We meet Bonnie, one of the more prominent people in the company, who sends off Will to find some potential clients. After he leaves, Bonnie tells Liv not to get stuck in the kitchen while her man is balls-deep in another woman.
Will’s phone
Upon getting home from work, Liv tries to kiss all over Will, but he says he has to freshen up first from a long day at work. While in the shower, Liv looks inside his phone, where she sees a message from Sol that says, “I can’t stop thinking about you inside me. X.”
After getting out of the shower, she confronts him about who Sol is. Instead of owning it, he questions why she was going through his phone and says it was someone he met at a conference and didn’t do anything with her. She asked what her name was, and Will said Emily, so she wanted to know why she was saved under a different name. He admits to it. Livs thanks him for being honest and kicks him out of the house.
After a few days, Will returns to the house to attempt to talk to Liv. At first, she doesn’t open the door, but he slides some papers under it that say “The Ultimate American Road Trip” on them. Liv lets him in. He apologizes and pleads for her to go on this road trip she’s always wanted and start over fresh.
Will’s computer
Liv jumped onto Will’s computer to forward herself something in his emails. However, she stumbles across an email from someone, and as she searches for the person’s name, she finds a video of Will and a woman having sex. It’s followed by the woman in the video asking, “You will leave her, right?’ and Will says, “Yes.”
Instead of confronting him on the video, Liv plays along and pretends to be happy-go-lucky. It is followed by a montage of Liv imagining ways of killing Will. The duo goes whitewater rafting with a bunch of people. Before they head out, Liv cuts a strap off where Will will be sitting. He is thrown overboard mid-trip, but she saves him.
Will gets a call when he and Liv are about to have sex, and Liv overhears the person on the phone saying, “It doesn’t mean anything.” The episode ends with Will having sex with Liv as she sees herself at a gravesite, staring at his grave.
