Unfortunately for Otis, Maeve makes the best decision she can for her future. At Cavendish, the students stage a protest in solidarity with Isaac.
Jean (Gillian Anderson) and Maeve (Emma Mackey) finally get some screen time together, and the two women build a strong rapport in Sex Education season 4, episode 7. Unfortunately for Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve makes the best decision she can for her future. At Cavendish, the students staged a protest in solidarity with Isaac (George Robinson).
Episode 7 starts with a flashback of a teenage Jean at one of her mum’s parties, where she has to intervene and rescue Joanna from their mother’s predatory boyfriend. Of course, Joanna, being a child, was mad about Jean interrupting.
Back in the present, Jean’s podcast got put on hold after O’s cancellation. As Otis’s been spending most of his time at Maeve’s, Jean invites both of them over for dinner, and they reluctantly accept.

Jean decides to quit the podcast for good and focus on being a mom. She also decides to lend Joanna the cash she needs to get out of debt but wants her younger sister to sign a written sisterly agreement first.
Maeve wants to enroll at Cavendish but has to leave before filling out the form when she gets a call about picking up her mother’s ashes.

Meanwhile, Ruby found herself a new candidate for the sex therapist election; his name is Connor. Both O and Otis are outraged, yet the rest of the student body seems more inclined to vote for the new guy than either of them.
Jackson suspects his parents are hiding something about his biological father’s identity after the sperm donation clinic tells him he’s not in their records.
As Viv is about to walk into her mock exam, Beau starts showing signs of being abusive. He accuses her of flirting with another student and forcefully grabs her. Otis doesn’t make it to his mock exam as he’s stuck in the elevator with none other than his nemesis, O.
Why does Isaac set off the fire alarm?
Sick of the lift constantly being broken, Isaak and Aimee set the fire alarm off and blocked the stairs. When the students walk out in a panic, he makes a point on the importance of accessibility.
Aisha also speaks out, as her entire class left her behind as she couldn’t hear the alarm. And in a hilarious Mean Girls reference, even one disabled kid who doesn’t go to Cavendish spoke out about the issue. In a show of solidarity with Isaac, all the students refuse to take their exams until the lift is fixed.
Why did Adam try to drive the tractor?
Poor Adam can’t catch a break. When he tries moving a tractor to make room for the hay delivery truck, he accidentally backs up into a fence and breaks it. Needless to say, Jem isn’t pleased. Funnily enough, when he walks into her office to say goodbye, she doesn’t fire him. He’s good at his job. But Jem does forbid him from ever getting on the tractor again.

Jean and Jo fight
Jean and Joanna have a fight as neither of them is addressing the issues in their lives. Jean hasn’t dealt with the whole Jakob fiasco from last season, while Joanna is ignoring their abusive childhood and constantly self-sabotaging.
As the students continue their protest, the last part of Eric’s dream comes true. Cal brings bread from the cafeteria for everyone. Meave arrives at Jean’s house for her dinner as Jo is making a very dramatic exit. Of course, Otis is still stuck in the lift with O.
Jean’s advice to Maeve
Jean and Maeve seem to be getting on quite well. Maeve opens up about her lack of confidence in herself and says her tutor’s feedback is the reason she’s considering staying in Moordale. Jean advises Maeve not to let her tutor’s harsh words get in the way of her dreams of becoming a writer.

Meanwhile, Otis and O start bonding inside the lift. O admits to feeling bad about what she did to Ruby. It was her way of making friends with the popular girls so that no one would notice her asexuality.
Adam visits his dad and tells him some harsh truths. Poor Adam genuinely believes Michael hates him. And when Otis finally gets home, he’s surprised to see Jean and Maeve have successfully made dinner together.

When Jackson gets home, he snoops into his parents’ bedroom and finds a love letter from a man named Jerome. He goes to tell Viv about it but finds her in tears over what happened with Beau, who keeps blowing up her phone.
After dinner, Maeve tells Otis she’s going back to Wallace. She is also unsure if she’ll ever come back. The two confess their feelings for one another and finally make love.
The next morning, Maeve says her goodbyes to Otis and meets up with Aimee and Isaac. She gives them her blessing to start dating.
After scattering her mom’s ashes, Maeve goes back to America and leaves Mooredale behind. For good this time.
