The ten-episode Hulu whodunnit Death and Other Details was created by Heidi Cole McAdams, known for her work on The 100, and Mike Weiss, known for his work on shows like Chicago P.D. and Stumptown. While not confirmed for Season 2 yet, the showrunners definitely have plans for a second outing, though a decidedly mixed critical reception may nix those plans.

Has Death and Other Details been renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing, Death and Other Details has not been officially renewed for Season 2 by Hulu. Although nothing is set in stone, showrunners Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams shared hopes for a second season in an interview with Town and Country Magazine.

Weiss stated: “We have some top-secret hopes and dreams, with some of those based on the last two episodes.” Personally, depending on how things play out in the finale, I could easily see them try to expand this to focus on Rufus and Imogene working together to solve a murder somewhere else. It’s the most logical way of looking at this, and it could even be done with just Imogene alone if Rufus doesn’t come back.

We explore the audience at the bottom of the page, but with the audiences enjoying Death and Other Details and with an idea already cooked up by the showrunners, it could very well find itself getting a second season. If anything does change about the status, we will be sure to keep you updated.

What plans do the showrunners of  Death and Other Details have?

In the same interview, Weiss mentioned that everyone won’t come alive, as we saw in the premiere. Furthermore, “The characters who are lucky enough to survive the dangerous cruise, they’re gonna go off, and they’re going to take on more mysteries together as a unit.”

Of course, this further proves my thoughts of the potential of Imogene and Rufus, or even Imogene and one of the other characters surviving and tackling a different case.

How has Death and Other Details been received by audiences and critics so far?

When I wrote my initial Death and Other Details review, I hoped the series would veer in the right direction. However, this show only got progressively worse as each episode passed. The writers attempted to have many layers but failed to tell one story that would connect all the dots in a meaningful way. I still stand by my love for Violett Beane’s performance, but this had so much more potential than what it lived up to.

While critics have mostly been in my favor, as the show sits at 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audiences are enjoying the series, with their score sitting at 74%. That said, this is only with 50+ ratings logged by audiences. On IMDb, it has a little over four thousand ratings, which is met with a favorable rating of 6.9/10.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a range of disparities in the critics vs. audiences, but it will be interesting to watch the number as more people tune in.
