Summary
Elite Season 8 is lacklustre throughout, but the ending is a pretty fitting send-off for the series overall.
And, finally, it’s over. Episode 8, “End of Term”, isn’t just the end of Elite Season 8, but the ending of the entire series. And thank goodness for that, since it has been rubbish for years.
Here’s the good news – this finale is fine as the climax of a series way past its use-by date. It ties up this season’s largely predictable and dull murder mystery, but it also provides a half-decent send-off to the students and, indeed, Las Encinas, which should have really closed its doors a long time ago given how many murders happen there.
For the last time, then, let’s break down the ending of Elite Season 8 and bid farewell to this wretched place.
Who Murdered Joel And Why?
As with virtually all the previous seasons of Elite, the final outing revolves around a murder.
Joel is the victim, and his fate is tied to the arrival of two new characters, siblings Emilia and Héctor Krawietz. Hector is the President of the Alumni, an exclusive club that requires students to obtain membership by completing bespoke challenges.
Joel develops a thing for Hector, which leads him to the Alumni’s secret sex parties. Joel indulged in the debauchery ostensibly as a way to divorce himself financially from Ivan, who forms the third vertex in the love triangle with Joel and Hector.
Some of the Alumni’s sex parties take place in rooms at Isadora’s club, so Luis uses the information to blackmail her. Isa turns to Joel to pull some strings in Alumni to prevent the club from being shut down. After Joel threatens Luis, the latter kills him.
Luis Is Exposed By Accident
Joel’s murder is captured on camera thanks to Chloe, who had left her phone on a shelf to monitor things in the alumni room after she and Eric had attacked Joel.
Joel had been blackmailing Chloe’s mother Carmen over the video that Dalmar had recorded in the Season 7 finale, proving that Carmen killed Raul and Chloe helped her cover it up. He was trying to force her into paying off Dalmar, but she was reluctant as she didn’t think that would conclude the matter.
Omar Makes A Decision
When Omar acquires the footage, he tries to use it to force Hector and Emilia into admitting they were responsible for attacking him. In response, Hector plays on Omar’s lingering resentment for Las Encinas and the loss of Samuel and Joel and proposes burning the establishment down.
Nadia convinces Omar that this will allow Hector and Emilia to get away with everything. With Luis positioned to prevent the video from going through official channels, Omar uploads it to social media and lets the people do their thing.
The police hunting down Luis inadvertently saves Isadora from him. He had drugged her after she plotted to kill him by poisoning. However, Isa still gets her revenge by injecting Luis with a hefty narcotic concoction, which ultimately results in his death.
Las Encinas Closes Its Doors Forever
It’s about time, but Las Encinas is finally closed for good. After so many scandals and murders, it was inevitable the school would be unable to continue operating, especially after once Omar’s video went viral.
Carmen and Chloe end up leaving the country after Dalmar gives the video of Raul’s murder to Sara, who forwards it to Carmen. Chloe is forced to leave Eric behind, but they hope to cross paths again in the future.
In a final, fitting twist, the Las Encinas students have to take their final year exams – in a public school, where they immediately become a laughing stock. The privileged kids are forced to endure the same fate that they subjected everyone they perceived to be lesser to, and for once, their fancy cars and clothes can’t protect them from the real world.
