Summary
Quite a long episode that, despite the length, doesn’t touch on Saman’s death as much as it should do. The ending is quite inspiring, though; you can only imagine the stress people must have gone through when it happened in real life.
Episode 4 of Thai Cave Rescue Season 1 featured one of the most emotional scenes of the season when Saman tragically died and it’s likely that his death will have a profound impact on the rescue mission in Episode 5. But seeing as this is the penultimate episode of the mini-series, we might start seeing an improvement in their mission to rescue the trapped boys.
Thai Cave Rescue Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
The date is 7th July 2018, and Saman’s body is brought out of the cave. The devastating death makes everyone question how on earth they can bring the football team and their coach out of the cave in a safe manner. In the cave, as the oxygen levels drop even further, it means they are in the danger zone now. Noon arrives on the scene and finally meets Pim in person. She intends to set up a mobile weather station. However, she was only allowed to do so when she warned her boss that failure to help could result in career suicide.
As the football team grows bored in the cave, Eak yells at them when she starts to pull stupid and dangerous pranks. On land, the experts start to design new plans to free the football team from the cave. But none of them can agree on the safest measure, although ketamine seems like the most reliable bet for now. Eak apologizes to the boys for leading them into the cave. It seems that the guilt of bringing them to the cave is eating him up inside. The experts practice ways for the football team to leave the cave safely. However, they need more time. But time is not a luxury they have.
Thai Cave Rescue Season 1 Episode 5 Ending
The Governor asks the parents, as one father puts it, “to sign away their son’s lives”. They learn that a new storm is coming, and this time it will be stronger than ever. Therefore in the next 48 hours, the pumps will fail. Not only that, the storm is likely to be so strong that it will flood the cave and kill those that are trapped. So faced with a tight timeframe, the experts must let go of the grief from Saman’s death and force themselves to take a risk. So, the rescue mission starts now.
The closing section of the episode is the highlight and makes me semi-excited for the season finale. Even though I’m familiar with the true story and I know the eventual outcome, it should still prove to be an emotion-filled watch.
