We discuss the Netflix film The School for Good and Evil, including the plot synopsis, release date, time, cast, and trailer.

Very well-anticipated film of the year for fantasy fans, with a star-studded cast, and based on the bestselling book series by Soman Chainani, The School for Good and Evil will be the magical drama we’ve been needing since Harry Potter and Once Upon a Time. This film follows the story of two best friends, Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie) who find themselves thrown into an enchanted school aimed at training heroes and villains alike to protect the balance of good and evil.

Whilst the books were aimed at a younger audience, I think the film is taking a different turn, and will be suitable for all audiences.

Netflix film The School for Good and Evil plot synopsis

Here is the official plot synopsis:

“Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between good and evil.”

Our opinion of the premise

I’m really excited about this film, for the storyline, for the strong female protagonists, and for the fantasy. Judging from the synopsis and trailer, I can tell this will be a story about female friendships and coming-of-age, where there will be a focus on their character development, as well as getting to see some amazing spells and eye-opening artistic cinematography.

Will their friendship make it? What happens when the balance between good and evil is overturned? In their enchanted institution, children are trained to become fairy-tale heroes or villains, what happens if they go on opposite sides? All exciting ways to get your imagination growing. Safe to say if you’re a Gothic, fantasy lover who is into magic, this film won’t steer you wrong.

The School of Good and Evil books are a large franchise, so hopefully, we will get a few more sequels in this story to indulge in. The film was initially meant to premiere around Christmas of 2017, and to fans’ disappointment was pushed back until this year, although being released close to Halloween will make this Gothic fantasy film a must-watch for the season. Will this help fill the magical void we’re all missing? Only time will tell.
