The writer of films like Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and Triple Frontier, Mark Boal, created Echo 3, a series on Apple TV+. It was not only Boal’s first dive into the world of TV, but he directed three episodes of the series. While we have seen Apple dive into many different worlds, this was their first series that dived into the world of war.
Echo 3 told the story of an Amber who went missing along the border of Colombia and Venezuela. Throughout each episode, we discover Amber’s importance while her husband and brother do everything they can to hunt her down and get her back. The hunt causes mass chaos between the two countries leading into causing a war. The series starred Jessica Ann Collins (Zero Dark Thirty) as Amber, Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6) playing her brother Bambi and Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones) playing Prince, her husband.
As I mentioned, this is Boal’s first dive into the world of TV, but he does keep it within his wheelhouse, with the series being about kidnapping, war, and political uprising. You could tell within certain elements of the series that Boal was the writer because his attention to detail is second to none within a war zone.
I covered the series for Ready Steady Cut, and when I watched the first four episodes, I did not love the series and gave it a mediocre rating. However, the moment episode five started, the series took off to new heights because of Jessica Ann Collins. Her acting in that episode single-handily saved the season for me. Once her story progressed, as did everyone else within the series. The little things started to matter, meaning the big things would land.
I went from dreading covering the series to being excited to follow along. The brilliant writing and acting ensemble led to me doing a complete 360 on the series. It’s one of the best war series that I’ve seen in a long time. That said, the big question is whether we will see a second season of Echo 3.
Will there be a season 2 of Echo 3 – renewed or cancelled status
There has been no confirmation as to whether or not the series will be renewed for a second season. Regarding how critics and audiences have received it is somewhat in the middle. It does have a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes by critics sitting at 67%, while the audience score is slightly lower at 62%. While those numbers aren’t massive, they are good enough for Apple to consider renewing.
Now without divulging into any spoilers, there is potential that creator Mark Boal can go with the series to make a second season without any questions. That said, the ending was fruitful enough that we would be just fine if Apple doesn’t greenlight the second season.
If anything changes about the status, we will update you and this post when it happens.
How many Seasons of Echo 3 are there?
At this moment in time, Apple has not confirmed how many seasons of Echo 3 they plan to have. The fact that it is based on a novel may steer the plan for Apple TV+, but we are still awaiting confirmation.
Echo 3 is top notch. It is a thriller to be sure. Can’t stop watching
I really enjoyed it. Bradley Whitford always turns in a good performance and Luke Evans is strong. Definitely would enjoy a season #2
As much as I love Luke Evans, to think there will be a season 2, what will they do, or who will they rescue this time?? I can’t think of what the story would be, someone kidnapping the sister again.
Is the real name Echo 3 or there is Echo 2???
I think a season 2 would be great. Something along the lines of Columbians coming to US to kill them for revenge? Fingers crossed.
guys , really now , this is utter rubbish series , to much flashbacks , storyline with with so much gaps , bambi and prince are suppose to be special forces , no ways they move like specialist ,more of new raw recruits starting off training., one very laughble mistake is amber is so depressed and broken in by the enemy torture tactics, and seeing all the dead bodies laying around ( which was minor torture ) ( suppose to be CIA agent ) next moment its like she got healed within seconds the moment bambi handed her the firearm , after getting drooped on the island shes back to a tortured soul luke evans should never have accepted the part
Please give us another season of Echo 3. It was brilliant and so captivating.
Could not believe the awful ending. I followed the series mainly for the action sequences. The original Israeli series on which this is based is much better in terms of story. I have no idea what Boal was trying to do. Does not deserve a second season.
I would like to see a second season. I looked forward to each episode this season so I would look forward to a second season too. Not sure how they will clean up the ending in a new season but I would tune in to see how they address it.
I LOVED ECHO 3 and would welcome Season 2. PLEASE RENEW.
Great series. Too many unanswered questions. I didn’t think they would make it out. They scorched the Earth for her and she is lost to them mentally. Do not leave it like this.
I loved it please do another season it kept me excited for the next episode ?? the guys were great
I am waiting to see the second season. Since first episode I found its a breathtaking masterpeace.
WE WANT SEASON 2?!!!
PLEASE season 2, so we’ll done. Acting, plot, cinematography… incredible!
I will be really disappointed if there isn’t a second season for Echo3! I’m an elderly woman and I found it riveting however anti-climatic… There could be so much more to the story. JUST SELL IT and DO IT! I’m not naive but there needs to be a unified effort.
