Summary
This is becoming a surprising Korean Drama, full of drama and life lessons; episode 11 peaks as truths surface.
We recap the Netflix K-Drama series The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 11, which contains spoilers.
This story was always going to lead to tears. Not dealing with your feelings hurts people in the long term, and Ahn Su-yeong (Moon Ga-young) and Ha Sang-su (Yoo Yeon-seok) should have known better.
There’s plenty of projection in this K-Drama series, and the complications that arise serve plenty of lessons. It’s refreshing to see a Korean Drama bring an honest take on the human nature of situationships, something that has become far too habitual in modern culture.
The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 11 recap
Ahn Su-yeong and Han Sang-su kiss
Episode 11 opens at the ice rink. Su-yeong admires Sang-su as he sorts out the ice skates. Su-yeong narrates that she made her feelings for Sang-su too obvious, and it’s accompanied by scenes of their “unspoken moments” where it was clear they wanted each other. Episode 11 then shows them kissing each other passionately on the ice rink. There’s no hesitation. They just embrace the moment.
However, Su-yeong decides to leave the ice rink and tells Sang-su that she wants him to pretend it never happened. However, Sang-su cannot pretend anymore, and he makes it clear that he’s to blame for their situation. He tells her clearly that he likes her. He’s ready to take accountability, but maybe it is too late.
Afterward, Su-yeong invites Sang-su for a drink and asks him to play “The Lying Game” with her, where everything they say is made up. She describes herself as a woman that was given everything growing up — essentially, describing Mi-gyeong. Sang-su describes a life where he went fishing with his father and won the lottery. They both giggle at their fake stories where they are from wealthy families.
But then, Su-yeong tells Sang-su that she liked him first and that when she is with him, she forgets about her troubles. And then she says the game is over. Was she lying? Or was she talking from the perspective of Mi-gyeong? It’s a mind game for Sang-su.
Mi-gyeong tries to call Sang-u, but there’s no answer
Mi-gyeong has dinner with her family, and her father cruelly makes her aware that he’s behind her early promotion. Mi-gyeong is upset, believing she deserved the promotion on her own accord. She returns home to an empty apartment, stunned by her father’s admission. She tries to ring Sang-su repeatedly, but he’s out with Su-yeong. Su-yeong hears the constant phone vibrations; it’s torture. Sang-su decides to turn off his phone and hold Su-yeong’s hand instead.
When Su-yeong gets home, Jong-hyeon asks Su-yeong if he can stay at hers a little longer and that he’ll pay her back over time — he apologizes. Su-yeong apologizes, too, and asks him to take his time to move out.
Su-yeong volunteers to work at another branch
At work, the team learns that one of the bank branches is closing down and becoming a sub-branch. They need a volunteer to work at the sub-branch for a few months. Su-yeong offers to go. When Sang-su is about to volunteer, Gyeong-pil intervenes and volunteers too. Mi-gyeong sees what Sang-su was about to do. Sang-su asks Su-yeong if she’s moving branches for a few months because of him. Su-yeong claims it’s because of performance reports and not because f him.
What is clear is that Mi-gyeong is holding onto something that she cannot have. Sang-su asks her for time to talk so he can tell her something, but she keeps telling him that she’s busy. Mi-gyeong is holding on to the relationship, knowing that Sang-su wants to break up. At this point, Mi-gyeong is equally to blame for letting this continue.
Later on, in Episode 11, Sang-su visits Su-yeong at her new workplace, which is situated at the university that Sang-su used to attend. They walk together peacefully like they always do, and Sang-su describes what it was like to be a student. Su-yeong wants Sang-su to join her for lunch, but he has to return to work. Gyeong-pil sees them both from a distance walking together.
Later on, Gyeon-pil invites Su-yeong for a drink with other subbranch colleagues, and he lets Sang-su know by text. Su-yeong is harassed by other colleagues while out; they mention how she used to be a mistress, but she defends herself in this embarrassing moment.
Gyeon-pil tells Sang-su not to hurt Mi-gyeong and Su-yeong
Sang-su is obviously feeling a lot of emotions, and he tries to find a moment with Mi-gyeong to talk to her, but she evades him again. And then, Sang-su meets up with Gyeon-pil for a drink. His colleague tells Sang-su that he has to give up his feelings for Su-yeong, before it gets too far. Sang-su gets annoyed as he believes Gyeon-pil finds it funny. Gyeon-pil asks Sang-su if he will break up with Mi-gyeong, but he refuses to answer.
