This recap of Netflix K-Drama series A Love So Beautiful episode 16 contains significant spoilers.

With exam results more important than ever in the last chapter, episode 16 opens with students working hard in class. They all have to write down their desirable university of choice. Sol-i studies with Dae-sung in the library — neither of them have written down their career prospects yet. Cha Heon lurks nearby, which makes Sol-i smile. It feels like a chapter in their lives is slowly coming to an end — the next stage is on the horizon, which made it the best episode so far in this k-drama series.

Jin-hwan is still avoiding Ha-young

Jin-hwan is still in the hospital, and Ha-young visits him. He is trying to avoid her. She gives him the slip to write down his university of choice and career prospects, plus the latest maths studies. Jin-hwan isn’t interested in the materials. Ha-young is frustrated; she rips up her notes and leaves him in the hospital. Jin-hwan needs to take a leaf out of Cha Heon’s book — to step up the plate and act on his affection for the one he likes.

Cha Heon has different career prospects

Cha Heon tells her mother that he doesn’t want to apply for KEIST University, and she’s disappointed. He states it is his life, and he wants to choose what to do with it. Cha Heon then visits his friend in the hospital, and Jin-hwan is piecing together Ha-young’s notes that he tore to pieces. Cha Heon tells his friend he wants to go to medical school and stay by Sol-i’s side. He tells Jin-hwan not to avoid Ha-young — wise advice from Cha Heon, who can clearly see his friend pushing her away.

Sol-i and Cha Heon watch each other

The next day, Cha Heon is watching Sol-i study, and he is taken in by the way she works, and her facial features. As she studies, Cha Heon naps next to her on the table. She leans into him, and Dae-sung sees from a distance and walks away. Cha Heon wakes up and asks what she’s doing. Sol-i lies and says she was trying to wipe the sweat off his face. Cha Heon knows perfectly well that she wasn’t doing that — they are past the stage of pretending their affection towards each other is innocent.

Dae-sung’s grandmother goes missing

Later on, Dae-sung finds out his grandmother has disappeared from the nursing home; Sol-i and Cha Heon help find her. They shout her name in the area around the care home. Sol-i and Cha Heon find her. When Dae-sung approaches her grandma, she doesn’t remember what her grandson looks like and wonders when she will see him. A heartbreaking moment for Dae-sung, which is compounded when the grandmother talks about his prospects of swimming.

Cha Heon and Dae-sung have an understanding

Later in the evening, Dae-sung thanks Cha Heon for helping him. He also tells him he is going to start over with swimming. He wants to make his grandma’s dream come true and become a national champion. Cha Heon says he will not go to KEIST University. Dae-sung tells him to take good care of Sol-i, and if he lets his guard down and fails her, he will come to look after her himself — it’s a cheeky threat, but both friends seem to have relaxed over the situation. Dae-sung has conceded — he knows Sol-i’s feelings for Cha Heon is out of his control.

The ending

Dae-sung asks Sol-i to remember the first time they met. He admits to liking her a lot, leaving her in shock. He goes into his feelings and how he appreciated her watching him swim. Sol-i cries, remembering all the times he was there for her. He ends the conversation by saying that he will not like her and asks her not to be sorry. Sol-i thanks him for everything.

As the episode ends, the students take part in their exams.
