We discuss whether there will be a Vikings: Valhalla season 3 and the renewed and canceled status of the Netflix series.

Vikings was one of the standout shows to be released on streaming platforms, and the show would have a substantial run from 2013 to 2020. Created and written by Michael Hirst, the show was a historical drama originally developed for the Discovery Channel. It was based around the life of Ragnar Lodbrok, a Viking Norse Hero, once a humble farmer that would rise to notoriety and become a king.

The series would reach an end in 2020, but it would not be long before a prequel would appear, Vikings: Valhalla. After the success of the first season, a second one was commissioned and will be available to watch on Netflix from January 12th, 2023. However, the question we ask today concerns whether or not there will be a third season of the show.

Will there be a Vikings: Valhalla Season 3?

Well, we don’t want to give much away about Season 2, but viewers will be on the edge of their seats wondering about what happens after the battle of Kattegat. Freydis needs to know more about her prophesied eventual destiny, and Harold is keen to regain his right to be Norway’s king. Meanwhile, Leif is on a rampage after the battle, so there is a lot to be going on with.

Good news — a third season of Vikings: Valhalla is on the way. It appears that Season 3 was already given a green light to go into production along with Season 2. The appetite for this particular historical adventure is still high, and with demand so great, seasons two and three were always going to be produced.

How many seasons will there be of Vikings: Valhalla?

From what we can gather, it appears that this epic story was envisioned as twenty-four episodes to allow the story to be told. These episodes have been broken into three eight-episode seasons, and as there has so far been no official notice, we are sad to assume that season three may be the last in this run.

Showrunner Jeb Stuart has also said that the third season will take place in 1066, and that also suggests that this time zone confirms that this will be the final story for the Vikings as historically, this era marks the end of the Viking timeline. That is not to say that the Vikings franchise will end completely. With the popularity of the show and the way the story can be carried at different times, keep everything crossed that there may be another addition to the canon of the show.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Potential Release Date

From what we can tell, production on season three started in the Spring of 2022, so at the time of writing, the show has had nearly a year to get things together. With no official release date, it is hard to know how long the show will need in post-production, but we may see a release at the end of 2023 or possibly the start of 2024.
