Shrinking is an Apple original comedy series from creators Bill Lawrence (Scrubs and Ted Lasso), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), and the show’s very own leading man himself, Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother). It’s an entirely original series about therapist Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel), who struggles to move forward with his life after the sudden death of his wife, Tia (Lilan Bowden). In a moment of madness, he decides to stop sugar-coating everything and instead be brutally honest with his patients, friends, and family.
The series comes equipped with a stellar cast of lovable and unforgettable characters. Jimmy’s co-workers include the energetic Gaby (Jessica Williams) and the ever-grumpy Paul (Harrison Ford). He forms a close bond with one of his patients, Sean (Luke Tennie), a veteran soldier with anger problems. There is, of course, Jimmy’s daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) and his best friend Brian (Michael Urie), the lawyer as well. Rounding off the cast are Jimmy’s nosy neighbors, Liz (Christa Miller) and Derek (Ted McGinley), who have helped with Jimmy’s past bereavement problems.
Critics widely praised Shrinking, with much love for the perfect cast and a stand-out performance from the screen legend Harrison Ford. I found the first season to be wholesome, heartwarming, and hilarious. It’s a life-affirming series that is sure to uplift and motivate. And, of course, Ford’s vulnerable performance has to be applauded. So, with such high praise, will Apple TV+ renew the show for a second season?
Will there be a Season 2 of Shrinking – renewed or canceled status
It has been confirmed Apple TV+ has announced that Shrinking will be returning for a second outing. It seemed inevitable that the show would be renewed for a second season, and thankfully Apple made the decision early on.
It’s hardly surprising when we look at the creators’ track records, Ted Lasso has been given three seasons at Apple (so far), and Bill Lawrence’s Scrubs ran for nine seasons in total. The company is in safe hands with great talent in front of and behind the cameras. The show is extremely popular, and the critics loved it too. A second season of Shrinking was always going to be a safe bet for the streaming platform, and luckily fans haven’t been strung along, waiting for confirmation either.
The finale is yet to air, but our cast of characters has made lots of progress throughout the season. Hopefully, a second season will explore their continued development as they push forwards with their lives while throwing in new obstacles and intriguing issues to tackle. We are yet to see much of Jimmy and Tia’s past, and Paul’s marriage hasn’t been addressed much, either. There are plenty of ways a second season could go, and hopefully, the creators can continue to build upon this solid first season now that they have been given a chance.
