Netflix continues to please anime fans with another offering in the form of T.P BON, or Time Patrol Bon. The adaptation of the much-loved manga series will be dropping on the platform in May to commemorate the 90th anniversary of original author Fujiko F. Fujio’s birth. The anime is the second adaptation of the material and is coming courtesy of Studio Bones.

T.P BON Is Coming to Netflix in May

At the time of writing T.P BON is scheduled to release globally on Netflix on May 2, 2024. The date is subject to change based on unforeseen scheduling issues, but this is unlikely.

Plot Synopsis

The premise of Time Patrol Bon will sound familiar to many of you out there, as our protagonist, Bon Namihira, who is just a pupil at high school, becomes a member of a special crew of agents that can travel through time and use their power to pass through different time zones, trying to save people’s lives, usually at significant and influential events that have happened throughout the ages all around the world.

T.P Bon Voice Cast

Here’s the stellar voice cast for the upcoming anime:

  • Akihisa Wakayama as Bon
  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Ream Stream
  • Mamoru Miyano as Buyoyon
  • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Yumiko Yasukawa
  • Yoko Hikasa as Tetsuo Shiraish

  • Yasuyuki Kase as Gayler

The Original Anime Adaptation Came 34 Years Ago

T.P BON is an adaptation of a manga created by Fujiko Fujio, initially published in Monthly Shonen World and then continued in Monthly Comic Tom. Appearing in 1978, the series would run right through to 1986 and was so popular that it would be reprinted in various forms for years to come.

As with any manga hit, an anime version was considered, and in October of 1989, a “special” adaptation was released, animated by Gallop and broadcast on Nippon TV. The special would keep the original premise and was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama. The special was feature length, coming in at ninety-five minutes with Yuji Mitsuya playing the part of Bon.

T.P BON Is Rated 15 in the UK and TV-MA in the U.S.

In the U.K., Netflix has given the show a 15 rating, which means that the content is only suitable for ages 15 and upwards. This rating may surprise some viewers, but it received it due to scenes of violence and suicide within the story.

The U.S. equivalent rating is TV-MA, which generally refers to shows unsuitable for audiences below the age of 17, but is used very flexibly.

T.P. BON Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed And Will Release In July

Netflix has already confirmed that there will be two seasons of T.P BON, and the second has a confirmed release date of July 17, 2024.

As above, this release date is subject to change for a multitude of reasons, but an official announcement shows that the streaming giant is confident in it. Fans of the manga should mark their calendars.
