Season 3 is the first season where Olivia Colman takes on The Queen after Claire Foy stood down from the role after moving forward to a new period of Elizabeth's life. Season 3 also stars Helena Bonham Carter who takes on the role of Princess Margaret. Other cast members include Josh O'Connor and Josh O'Connor.
The Crown is already commissioned for a season 4, with this new cast refresh featuring in both seasons. The Crown Season 3 picks out significant periods in The Queen's life including the Aberfan disaster, the socialist Labour movement and the rising tensions born from the miner's strike that resulted in nationwide power cuts.
The Crown Season 3 is a reflection of how the Royal Family adjusted to the limelight of the evolution of Television and a progressive Britain. It deals with the growing Welsh nationalists and their role in the United Kingdom.
The third season has dedicated some chapters on solely on individual characters which highlight cracks but also bridges in the Royal Family. Despite the "modern" monarchy, nothing is ever simple growing up in a world that is privileged but highly structured and bent on rules. The Royal Family is tested more than ever with journalists savvier than ever and the media questioning the monarchy's worth in Britain.
