Like many people, I can’t wait for When the Stars Gossip to end. And while that might sound a little harsh, don’t worry about it, since I firmly believe that the show itself can’t wait to end either.

The weekly death of When the Stars Gossip is becoming quite a thing to behold, with Episode 14 hammering yet another nail into the coffin of a woeful drama that has, through sheer force of its ineptitude, begun tanking the South Korean TV market altogether.

If there’s a word to describe Episode 5 of Severance Season 2, it’s probably “sinister”. This isn’t entirely new for the show – the previous episode ended with someone almost being drowned in an icy river – but it usually comes in fits and starts.

“Woe’s Hollow” is a surprisingly horror-tinged masterclass of a Severance episode, and the best of Season 2 thus far by a margin.

As of Episode 9, When the Stars Gossip has pretty much lost me. It’s a shame, really, since there have been so many glimmers of potential that the fact the K-Drama doesn’t seem to be cohering into anything feels like a waste.

Severance has always been about a very stark dichotomy; innie versus outie, work versus home, truth versus well-sculpted simulation.

The most interesting thing that happens in Episode 4 of Mayfair Witches Season 2 happens at the very end, and then “Double Helix” ends before doing anything with it.

It’s the script, isn’t it? I think that’s what’s irking me about When the Stars Gossip. We’re on Episode 7 now and the K-Drama still hasn’t really improved in any meaningful sense.

After an excellently mysterious premiere reintroduced viewers to the world of Severance in its much-anticipated Season 2, “Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig” does the same thing from the opposite angle.
