Summary
“Separation” at least solves the central mystery, but it doesn’t exactly feel like an ending for a show that seems capable of continuing forever.
This recap of Elite season 6, episode 8, “Separation”, contains spoilers for the ending of Elite Season 6.
Another year, another eight episodes, another mystery solved, and another season left totally open. Netflix certainly know what they’re doing with Elite, a hit so reliable that they can essentially remake the same story each time with just a few details changed, and people will keep lapping it up.
So, to briefly refresh, Elite season 6 picked up after the end of the fifth season, with Ari, Patrick, and Mencia trying to carry on as normal despite their dad being in prison over Samuel’s death, and Isadora still looking for revenge after her sexual assault. While the majority of the drama here has revolved around some new characters, a good chunk of “Separation” is actually devoted to this stuff, so it makes sense to remind y’all of it here.
The big mystery of this season, since every season has to have one, has been who ran over Ivan and left him for dead, and also, by extension, whether or not Ivan survives. I’m happy to say we can conclusively answer both of those questions, though it does admittedly take a while to get there.
Elite Season 6 ending explained – who hit Ivan and does he survive?
After spending the entire season leaving behind small clues and red herrings about Ivan’s fate, the finale throws us one last curveball before finally revealing the truth. For the vast majority of the episode, we and the other characters believe that Mencia is responsible. When she wakes up in the car unable to remember a thing, she gets a call from Ari telling her that Ivan is in the hospital, and she puts the pieces together, assuming she was responsible.
Ari helps Mencia cover up the evidence, burning the car, but the implication is that’s only a temporary measure. Eventually, connections will be made, and the authorities will start asking awkward questions. So, Ari persuades Mencia to testify that their father wasn’t responsible for Samuel’s death so that he can help them to relocate. With Patrick and Ivan’s relationship having dissolved already, Ari is able to persuade him to accompany them, and at the end of the season, all three leave Madrid with their father.
The big twist of “Separation” is that this is all for naught since Mencia was never driving the car. Sara was driving the car that hit Ivan. After seeing Mencia in a bad state after having her drink spiked, Sara tried to drive her safely home and ended up hitting Ivan by accident. Of course, she turned to Raul for help, who set Mencia up to take the fall. Sara wasn’t exactly thrilled about that, but Raul sold it the best he could, and they seemed to reconcile in Sara’s hour of need.
Ivan is alive at the end of Elite Season 6, though admittedly not in a good way.
Does Isadora get justice?
We also get a very satisfying payoff to Isadora’s sexual assault storyline which allows Javi to attain some measure of redemption. Throughout the episode, we see that Hugo has been psychopathically unable to get it up outside of a gang rape context, and in order to satisfy his urges, he and Alex find another girl who is absolutely out of it and try to rape her in Isadora’s penthouse. Javi rats them out, though, leading to the two of them being arrested and charged. Javi also turns himself in for what happened in Ibiza. Isadora won’t move on easily, and it’ll be a long time before she can trust again, but she seems to want to make a go of things with Didac.
At the very end of the episode, and thus the season, a black SUV speeds toward Didac, Isadora, and Didac’s brother Pau, and we see an arm extend from the window holding a pistol. The shooter opens fire as we cut to black.
