March 2nd, 2023, marked the return of steamy sex scenes, unusual butter churning, and prosthetic-supported full-frontal nudity. Of course, I’m talking about season two of Netflix’s most NSFW original, Sex/Life. Based on the book 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton, Sex/Life centers on Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi), a bored housewife and mother of two. Life in the Connecticut suburbs with her perfect, loving, and terrible-in-bed husband (Mike Vogel) is not doing it for Billie, so she starts fantasizing (and writing) about her more exciting ex-boyfriend, Brad (Adam Demos).
While season one shows Billie going back and forth between her marriage and her lover, in the second installment, she tries to cope with life while going through a divorce and involving herself in a brand-new relationship. New characters are introduced, fresh dramas unfold, and steamier sex scenes heat up during the new Sex/Life season. Without giving away too many spoilers, the ending of season two feels like… well, an ending. Loose ends are tied, and all the story arcs reach somewhat satisfying conclusions.
Was the ending written like this to give audiences closure on the off-chance renewal was off the table? After all, Netflix has been habitually canceling original programming on a whim for years, and far too many shows ended on a never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger. Or was the 6-episode season meant to end the story? Considering BB Easton wrote three more Sex/Life books, or more accurately, spin-offs of 44 Chapters, there’s plenty of source material to keep the showrunners busy should they get the thumbs up from Netflix.
Will there be a Sex/Life Season 3 – renewed or canceled status
There’s no news confirming or denying a third season of Sex/Life. However, season 1 premiered in June 2021, and Netflix didn’t announce season 2 until August of that year, meaning it might be a few weeks before we know for sure if there’s a future in store for the series.
As to when a potential third installment could drop on the streaming platform, it might take a while. Filming for season one took place between August and December of 2020, with the series premiering in June of the following year. While season two spent four months being filmed between February and May last year, and it only just dropped on Netflix. Judging by the show’s production history, Sex/Life Season 3 filming is likely to start at some point during the summer, and it might be 2024 before we see more of Billie’s sexcapades on our screens.
All of this is, of course, pure speculation. Sex/Life is a popular series, and due to its risque subject matter, it has gathered quite a few fans. Ultimately, whether the show gets a new season will solely depend on viewership numbers, and other factors the Netflix higher-ups take into account. We will probably know sure shortly and update this page as soon as Sex/Life’s fate is confirmed.
Sex/Life Season 3 Release Date
There is no official release date for Sex/Life Season 3. However, if the series was filmed in late 2023, we can fully expect the third season to be released on Netflix in early 2024.
