We discuss whether there will be a Season 2 of the Prime Video series The Power and its renewed or cancelled status.

The Power is a sci-fi drama series from Prime Video, based on the novel of the same name, written by Naomi Alderman.

The series was developed by the author, alongside writers: Raelle Tucker (True Blood), Claire Wilson (Gangs of London) and Sarah Quintrell (His Dark Materials).

The first season introduced viewers to a sprawling international cast and numerous subplots from around the world, all set within the same dystopian society where women discover that they have the ability to release electricity from their fingertips.

These subplots focus on groups of females on a global scale who learn to use their powers as they battle their oppressors. Seattle’s Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez (Toni Collette) and her family struggle to adapt to this strange, ever-changing world.

There are also stories following crime boss daughter Roxy Monke (Ria Zmitrowicz) in London, the President’s wife Tatiana Moskalev (Zrinka Cvitesic) in Moldova, journalist Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh) in Nigeria, and mute miracle worker Allie (Halle Bush) in the Southern states of America.

The series looks at female empowerment and the battle for equality in a man’s world, which is pretty inspiring on its own, but will Prime Video be renewing the series for a second season?

Will there be a Season 2 of The Power – renewed or cancelled status

Prime Video is yet to renew The Power for a second outing, although it is yet to be cancelled either. Let’s discuss the possibilities of a second season.

Currently, The Power holds a 74% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, whilst IMDB has rated the sci-fi series with a 6.1/10. Interestingly it seems that the critics prefer the series to the reviewing public. The Power has been praised for its fascinating premise and ambitious scale.

It has also been a popular series for the streaming giants with its viewing figures too, and can still be found in the top ten trending series every week after its initial launch many weeks ago. With all that being said, will Prime Video be eager to renew the series?

Everything seems to be pointing towards a sure-fire renewal, but Prime Video has been known to cancel sci-fi originals in the past. Paper Girls and Night Sky were both cancelled after just one season.

Hopefully, The Power doesn’t receive a similar fate, but I’m going to predict that it, unfortunately, will be cancelled. It has a large budget which may not match its overall appeal, whilst the streaming giants have many other franchises to be focusing their attention on. Fingers crossed, I’m wrong, though.

As always, we will keep you posted on any updates on the pending renewal of The Power.

Well, the book has been out, so it’s not like we don’t have access to the information. It’s all about money for Amazon. If it sells, it stays.
I, personally, want Roxy to get her own show. She’s the woman.

I think this is an awesome series. I think it’s a bunch of bs that everytime I and everyone I know starts watching a GREAT SHOW and all this momentum builds up on what eventually would be a climatic ending instead it just gets cut off. And not renewed. Seems I wasted alot of my valuable time for nothing. Really hoping this doesn’t happen again. Or I’ll quit watching prime video and Net flix showing of any series.

Are the male executives afraid to renew The Power? I think this show is fabulous, it makes you think. We are still light years away from equality in this world. Something like this would be nearly instantaneous equality or would it? I love it.

lisa parsons you know as well as I do that your comment is pure BS. Most men do not have a issue with women in power or treating women as equals. Sounds like the bigot here is you and you alone.
