The popular Netflix series about a mild-mannered serial killer, You, returned last month for its fourth installment. In an unprecedented move, Netflix split the season into two equal parts and released them a month apart. This season showed Joe (Penn Badgley) trying to build a new life in London, away from all the dead bodies he left buried in the U.S.
But Joe being Joe, couldn’t stay out of trouble and soon started bonding with wealthy aristocrats. Then, he became a reluctant detective as he tried to figure out who was stalking him and murdering his new friends.

Like every other season before, season 4 had Joe surrounded by a new set of despicable characters we all love to hate. In London, he found a brand-new love interest in the form of spunky gallery owner Kate Galvin (Charlotte Ritchie). The show brought back his great love from season 3, Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), and we also had the pleasure of briefly catching up with Joe’s wife, the one and only Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). The series’s main villain, Rhys Montrose, was played by Ed Speleers.
While the first half of the season was a fun little whodunnit, part 2 takes a dark turn, and we get to watch Joe doing some much-needed soul-searching. Without spoiling too much, I will say that the way season 4 ends leaves the door open for even more insanity to follow our anti-hero. But is season 5 on the cards? Or have we seen the last of Joe Goldberg?
Will there be a season 5 of the Netflix series You – renewed or canceled status
Right now, Netflix has yet to renew You for a fifth season. But given the show’s popularity, we’ll probably hear some news within the next few weeks. Showrunner Sera Gamble told the Hollywood Reporter, “We have an idea for season five that we’re excited about. It was never anyone’s intention to run this one into the ground. When we’re done, we’ll be done. And we’ll pack it up.”
Let’s hope they won’t pack anything up before making at least another season.
And when asked about season 5 during his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Penn Badgley said, “I think if there’s another season, I think it’s only going to be one. I think–this is my understanding, but I don’t know, I really don’t know. But I know that everybody concerned, from the top on down, nobody wants this show to become tired. That’s when Joe is the most disgusting. That’s when the show stops having the intelligence that it has.”
If you’ve just watched season 4 and can’t get enough of Joe Goldberg, you’ll be pleased to know that another installment of the You series of novels by Caroline Kepnes, For You and You Only, is coming out at the end of April.
